This section of the website aims to show how educators have used digital tools to enhance art education in the classroom.
Digital books enable teachers (and pupils) to construct and share their own resources. The National University of Ireland, Galway has been a leader in this field and is our first exemplar in this section.

Some artists use digital tools and devices to create and capture images. One of the most well known is the UK artist David Hockney (1937 - ) who began to use an iPad and stylus in 2010. Hockney's work also spans more conventional art and photography and can be seen online and at many major galleries around the world. Tate Kids has produced 'Who is David Hockney' to support art education.
Images from Hockney's latest immersive show - there is a new and growing emphasis on showing works of art as 'light shows' where the audience is immersed on all surrounding walls with the artists paintings.

Immersive exhibitions
There has been a real increase in immersive exhibitions which use light shows either in whole or part to advocate an artists work. These often travel to different cities and admission fees need to be paid. They are well attended and do offer a way into art for people that don't normally rush to traditional art galleries.
Van Gogh - various versions of this popular artist are available https://vangoghexpo.com/london/
Dalí : Cybernetics https://immersive-dali.com
This exhibition explains a great deal about Dalí and his scientific interests and knowledge as well as an immersive experience plus a virtual reality experience.
David Hockney - currently showing through his immersive experience 'Bigger and Closer not smaller and further away' see above

Using Apps in the classroom
There are various apps that can be used by both children in school and by adults.
Sketchbook
https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/sketchbook/id883738213
This can be used in various ways and although drawing with fingers on ipads is a possibility using a digital pen provides greater accuracy. Another useful tip is to draw an image ofn paper, scan into the ipad, and then upload to the app for further enhancement. This could also aid the paracticalities of limited resources within a classroom.
Kaleido Paint - is an example of an app which reinforces symetrical pattern making and drawing
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kaleidopaint/id518275953
iPaint - Simple Drawing app - this could be a way of engaging reluctant children to draw as it is also easy to save pictures to photo albums.
iArtbook- Digital Painting app - also recommended from 4 years plus
