GCAO Online Courses

Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, UK

The main message of all our courses:

'How do the arts support creative teaching and learning for these themes':

We present here a series of courses which can be downloaded from this website in a variety of formats. Courses are designed to be self-guided, facilitated by a course leader or simply shared by a group learning together. Courses are available as web-based, power point or pdf versions. It is up to the user, trainer or group to decide which course and format they choose to follow.  All our  courses make reference either to our modules or to related methodologies.

Training course manual
The aim of this manual is to give users a brief overview of each of our courses. These have been compiled by the course author(s) and, like the courses themselves differ in detail and format.  Courses may be used for self-study at home or in a facilitated group, perhaps as part of a staff training programme. We are encouraging the formation of international partnerships around the themes of project and taking one of these courses together would be a great way to start working collaboratively. For these occasions we recommend one of the online courses.

Any of the power point formats may also be adapted for use with particular cohorts and you are also welcome to translate these if desired.

Drama activities and intercultural education

Using module themes with 4 - 6 year old pupils:
This is a course originated by our Italian partner. It is available in four formats. There are two power points (English and Italian) and two online courses (also in English and Italian).

Five of our courses are available in two formats.  Users can choose either a power point presentation or a web based version.  The web versions will be particularly useful to facilitators who intend to offer the courses remotely. They also includes an online evaluation tool.

Now all our courses are in place we also offer a Training Course Manual for course facilitators (see above to download). This supports self study and will also be helpful for teacher in-service and pre-service trainers who wish to adapt any of the courses for use in face to face or online training sessions. Facilitators may chose to give participants the option to register and log their progress and also to take part in a course evaluation. Although the funded project has now ended (April 2023) these courses will remain on the website for at least two years.
